Times & Seasons
On the day that has just passed, as the Church gathered between the joy of Eastertide fulfilled and the turning of its year into Trinity and Ordinary Time, we found ourselves within a single unfolding movement of God’s life among us: received in Easter, poured out in Pentecost, contemplated in Trinity, and carried forward into the ordinary life of the Church.

The Centenary of the Holy Trinity Willis Organ 1926 - 2026
This year we are celebrating our organ’s centenary. The Holy Trinity instrument is no ordinary church organ, having been built by one of the world’s leading organ builders, Henry Willis & Sons Ltd.
By 1926, the Willis firm, founded by the renowned ‘Father’ Henry Willis, had installed many magnificent and highly successful organs in England’s cathedrals during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The company was a leader in innovation, both tonally and technologically.
In 1926, the firm was under the general management of Henry Willis III, the founder’s grandson. This was an important year for the company, as it completed its huge instrument for Liverpool Cathedral and was also engaged in work at Westminster Cathedral. Fortunately for us, it still found time to build several smaller instruments, including our own.
Although our organ suffered over the years from damp, cold, dirt and even mice, it continued to serve faithfully. After many years of careful maintenance, it was extensively rebuilt in 2017 by the leading Durham organ builders, Harrison & Harrison. The work included largely new action, the addition of two new stops, and the painting of the case pipes in gold, as they appear today.
The organ is ideally suited to this church and possesses a versatile specification. Henry Willis himself expressed satisfaction with several stops of this design, and with the instrument as a whole.
There will be plenty of opportunities to hear the organ for yourself by attending our centenary celebrations.
We look forward to welcoming you. Do watch out for details of forthcoming organ-related events at Holy Trinity.
