Season of Remembrance 2025
November draws us into a season of remembrance – a time to recall with gratitude the saints and souls who have gone before us, and to honour all who have given their lives in the cause of peace.
From All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days to the Feast of Christ the King, we journey through the closing weeks of the Christian year, reflecting on the communion of all God’s people, living and departed.
Saturday 1st to Sunday 30th November.
Holy Trinity – Concert & Recital Series
Thursday, 13th November at 12.00pm
We are delighted that Martin will be giving a special concert to mark the season of Remembrance, which we hope everyone will enjoy. Martin promises some of the foot-tapping marches familiar from the Royal Albert Hall’s Festival of Remembrance, interwoven with gentle, poignant music offering comfort for those remembering loved ones. The programme includes works by Coates, Walford Davies, Elgar, Butterworth, Fauré, Barber, Vaughan Williams, and others
Martin writes: Over the last week or so, I have enjoyed putting the finishing touches to my programme for this concert which I much look forward to presenting next Thursday. I hope I have struck a balance between the pomp and circumstance on the one hand, but also the simplicity of the beautiful national airs that we hear from the cenotaph each year, all of which help us commemorate and remember the fallen, and to be thankful for the service of the millions who gave their lives for all that know today. I am not focussing purely on Remembrance, but also on Remembering, and therefore, a slightly different theme is woven through the programme for those who are thinking of their own loved ones who are no longer with us.
After a short pause in December for seasonal music and carol services, the new concert series resumes on Thursday, 29 January, with the young musicians of Monkton Combe School, starting at 12.30pm. Refreshments are served 30 minutes before the concert. All are welcome!
